alexis fishman

Born and bred in sun-drenched Sydney (except when it rains) Alexis brings a down to earth, wholehearted passion to her work. She is best known in Australia for her Helpmann Award nominated performance as the young Dusty Springfield in the hit musical Dusty. She graduated from the prestigious Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) ten years after Hugh Jackman and hopes one day to also play a superhero on the big screen. The Catwoman would be her first choice.

Favorites roles include the Spiderwoman in the Australian premiere of Kiss of the Spiderwoman, Marianne in Shout!, Amber Murray in the New York premiere of The Hatpin and Beth in Merrily We Roll Along. In 2007 Alexis entertained the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan and cites the experience as one of the most rewarding and challenging of her life.

Alexis is the creator and star of Der Gelbe Stern, a one-woman show set in Berlin 1933 that tells the story of wildly famous fictional  cabaret star Erika Stern. The show premiered at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival in 2011 followed by extremely successful seasons in Melbourne and Sydney and will premiere in New York in 2012.

Alexis is part way through a Masters in International Relations and in her spare time can be found at the library checking out boys. Um... I mean, writing papers on policy recommendations to the UN.

Alexis is now based permanently in New York and after years of birthday parties at Ice Skating Rinks relishes celebrating her birthday in the summer. She asks that you join her next birthday for a picnic in central park and that you don’t mention the ‘based permanently in New York’ thing to her mother.
